It will be just a memo today because I woke up late after wild dreams of not being able to control my Grade 1 class (I teach middle school!) at a friend’s wedding. I spent the entire time incensed, trying to put out fires and peeing (literally!), scolding, and making children spit out the communion bread.

Now I have to quickly put myself together, drive my daughter to her final exam of the semester at her university, and during the three hour wait, drive to have lunch with my Daddy in Abbotsford. This is as much as I have done – outside of my insane dreams – in the more than two weeks since Emily has passed.

So, I guess my new start is just getting out there a little bit. And driving. I love driving. Emily loved driving. She got her learner’s license this summer, and was immediately an expert. She drove in every state from Washington to Wisconsin on our cross country trip this summer, and was such a pro. From the moment she watched Cars when she was about four years old, she was intent on driving and cars. One of her most prized collections is of Matchbox cars she has collected over the years.

That girl. Today I honour her with my driving.

  1. I was so proud of her doing all that driving-brave girl and wonderful parents that encouraged her. Have a good day with your dad and wish Charlotte well on her exam. Must be so hard for her right now but she is a trooper-and a smart one at that! Love you!

  2. I wish I had known Emily beyond the few times I was able to meet her at the first. I admire her and her parents, as well as Charlotte. Love to you all.
